I’ve decided to leave things at about the 80% mark.
I wrote a cool song, left it about there and played it to my family. They said it needs development so I disowned the feckers.
I wrote another one and left it around the 70% mark because it was late and I couldn’t be arsed… Everyone thinks it’s wonderful so I played it on stage and got loads of warm compliments from just about everyone.
Thus: Do lots of crappy things instead of a few good ones. Solid gold safe advice, that.

Here’s a brochure which I found helpful for breaking the problem down a bit: http://www.couns.uiuc.edu/Brochures/perfecti.htm
Remember, we don’t have to totally defeat perfectionism, we must allow outselves to be only 80% unperfectionistic!

I’ve been wondering how to make this goal more positive… “avoid perfectionism” tells me what not to do, and gives me a mental image of perfectionism—not what I want to concentrate on.
I’ve adopted a new goal: make new mistakes
it combines allowing myself to be wrong with the playfulness of trying new things… and the mental image is of someone not concentrating on outcome but exploring and learning.
This is a more positive goal, it defeats perfectionism and seems more achievable.
