Last week could have been better, but given my recent eating patterns, I’ve made a little progress. One major step forward was the discovery of a fast-food joint known as Know Fat. It’s like a GNC store, but with a kitchen in the back. The food is really good there, I think, and the prices reasonable. Yesterday, I had steak tips with three sides – fries (not deep fried), broccoli, and the vegetable medley. The medley is not as bursting with nutrients as it could be – I’m not sure why they fill it with so many veggies with a low nutrient content, but it’s better than what I’ve been eating, and certainly tastes flavorful. For the moment, it has also made me excited about going to the gym, which is just next door. Hard to go to one place now without going to the other.

I’m not sure how I made this team, but I’m gonna try to do something worthy of it for at least the next couple of weeks. I’ve been eating horribly lately including having Lindt’s chocolate as a snack when I could have made a smoothie. This day is shot, but I will embark on the fruits and veggies diet tomorrow (which is not to say I won’t eat meat, but I will eat more veggies).
Thanks for the invite! For all we know, you just saved my life.
Fruit sundae with blueberries and strawberries. Can of corn. That was it for today—had a steak sub (with peppers and onions) for dinner. Not terribly healthy, but at least I didn’t have the fries.
I did great today. Asparagus and rosemary potatoes with lunch. Came home after errands and had another fruit sundae with strawberries and blueberries. This time I used real-sugar double-churn ice cream (110 calories a serving, 3 grams of fat). Later, had a can of corn (two servings) and then a cup of watermelon afterward.
I created the most delightful sundae today, partly inspired by Oprah and partly by that Times article on slow-churn ice cream. I combined a third of a cup of Breyers double-churn Neapolitan ice cream (Splenda-sweetened, which I bought accidentally, but it tastes okay; the real-sugar kind will be even better, I know); a large handful of strawberries, two handfuls of blueberries, and a “healthy” squirt of Reddi-Wip. It’s probably not even five total grams of fat (more if you use more ice cream), and tastes creamy and decadent, and yet it’s at least 1 1/2 servings, probably not quite two, of fresh fruit. I also had my daily serving of watermelon. Love that good old lycopene.
I had asparagus and potatoes (which don’t really count) with lunch. I meant to have a salad tonight, but I just don’t have it in me, so I’m going to pop open a can of corn. Two servings, about 6 g of dietary fiber. I also had a cup of watermelon cubes earlier, and after the corn (which I put a lot of pepper on), I may want more to quench my mouth again. That would be five servings today if I do the other watermelon cup.
