Turkey 3 years ago

I’m so disgusted… and sad. How can this be happening in this day and age? What is wrong with people?

I want to give up turkey. Giving up turkey for Thanksgiving will be easy. But to give up turkey hot dogs and turkey ground beef… that’s something else. So maybe I’ll have to start with giving up Butterball turkey.

This is what has me so upset. Warning: It’s disturbing. It’s a PETA undercover investigation of a Butterball slaughterhouse.

Birds are not covered by the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. To take action send a letter to your congressperson. They give you a sample letter, but putting something in your own words is best.

I also ordered a FREEVegetarian Starter kit. I hate veggies but hopefully there will be some ideas in here for me.

I haven’t read this yet but here are The Top 10 Reasons not to eat Turkeys.

I don’t understand why it has to be this way.

Iams' Response 3 years ago

To be fair I am posting Iams’ response to my email. I still have a lot to read but my initial response is this: Iams cares a lot about cats and dogs. But is it enough for me to continue using their products?

Iams’ Response:

“Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding our research and feeding studies. We are passionate about cats and dogs with a deep commitment to their health and welfare, so we understand how important this issue is to you.

For several years misleading and inaccurate information has been
circulating and I appreciate this opportunity to provide you with the facts.

To ensure that our products are safe and wholesome, we have the
responsibility to pet owners to feed our products to dogs and cats. Over 70% of the dogs and cats in our feeding studies live in consumers’ homes; however, some of our feeding studies require a controlled environment and are conducted at our own Pet Health and Nutrition Center or at an organization where pets are already residing-like animal shelters, or groups that train and provide assistance dogs.

The controlled studies are the veterinary equivalent of nutritional or medical studies acceptable on people. These studies are monitored by our own staff of veterinarians, behaviorists and independent experts. Our dogs and cats get the most advanced pet nutrition and health care as we develop formulas to help all cats and dogs live longer and healthier lives.

At our Pet Health and Nutrition Center, dogs are housed with a
companion (because dogs are pack animals). Each kennel has a doggie-door that takes them to an outside run, so they have plenty of room to run and play. Each dog is provided with his or her own toys (rotated on a regular basis) and their very own comfortable bed to sleep on. There is also a dog park adjacent to the kennels where the dogs play and interact each day in play groups.

Our cats are housed in compatible play groups. Each room is furnished with beds, toys (to stimulate play) and several perches, which allow the cats to observe things from a higher viewpoint. They also have a very large window, which has a platform for the cats to lie in the sun or just sit and watch the birds feeding at the outside bird feeders.

First up: Cat Food 3 years ago

It’s been pretty frustrating trying to find a new cat food. I called my vet and they recommend Eukanuba, Science Diet and Chicken Soup. None of these companies are on the “Companies That Don’t” list however they are not on the list of “Companies That Do” either.

Companies that are not on this list either responded to let us know that they do conduct laboratory experiments on animals or failed to respond to our numerous inquiries and are assumed to conduct laboratory experiments on animals.

Other lists I’ve found say the exact same thing as above. I do not want to have to switch just to have to switch again later.

I’m going to start here, with these products:
Clorox (Liquid Plummer, SOS, Tilex, Pine-Sol), L’oreal (shampoo and conditioner), Oil of Oly (moisturizer), Proctor and Gamble (Tide, Iams and Crest) and Soft Soap

Then eventually:
Arm and Hammer (cat litter and other products), Johnson and Johnson (Clean and Clear, Aveeno), S.C. Johnson (OFF, Shout, Ziplock)

I will email each company letting them know that I will no longer purchase their products and ask them to stop testing and experimenting on animals. I emailed the President of Iams today.

Dear Jeffrey P. Ansell,

Last night I learned that you experiment and test on animals.

This came as quite a shock to me since I’ve used your product for years and I’m very upset.

Changing my cat’s food is going to be one of the hardest changes that I make in the fight against animal cruelty. I do not want to change, but I can’t continue to use your product with a clear conscious.

Please stop conducting experiments on animals and, instead, rely on laboratory analysis of formulas for nutritional composition and in-home studies using dogs and cats who have been volunteered by their human companions.

Please.

stop buying things tested on animals 3 years ago

That was the title of the email I sent out to family and friends tonight. I can’t help it. When I’m passionate about something, I have to share.

Here’s the email…

I decided tonight that I am going to start doing this. It’s going to be hard but I’m going to start one small step at a time. And I thought I would share some information with you, if you are interested.

I’m very upset with all the companies who test on animals.

I’m especially upset with Iams.
