fun  — 1 month ago

I learned about my dad’s side of the family, well.. about the name and will be teaching this info to my kids.
It is great to be from such a strong name and to be related, really, to many Irish brothers and sisters on both sides. I am truly blessed.

too bad  — 2 months ago

I am 48 and still have not gotten to go to Ireland. I did go to England when I was 12.
I have relatives there… being married twice to 2 selfish guys… I am grateful to be doing as well as I am now on my own.
Visiting Ireland with my 2 little girls can be a new goal.
Wonder why I feel the way I do here… like it is not home( well Illinois is not home, California is… but after 23 yrs you think I would feel somehow at home… )

nursery rhymes  — 3 months ago

the girls love to read nursery rhymes.
last night we all did them together.
that is fun, they are English the book is from my mom and dad. He wrote their names in the front and the date.
It is great to do that when you give a book to someone.

culture  — 3 months ago

my mom lived till she was 7 in ireland but grew the rest of her time in england till meeting dad.
marrying him and then moving to canada and the US.
my culture is really a lot of english cuz of her living there and all the stories and her ways./
i miss it a lot, things out here in IL are so different from where i grew up, ( calif) and she always longed for england and ireland when we were in calif!
home is where we are loved and accepted and where we fit in , the culture … i am so not part of the culture here, what is the culture ?
I do not think I am part of it.
so… create my own on my own.
i am having lots of time to read and lament the sad state of things in the US>..
i lose sleep over it.
i miss my home and culture.,, it is not around me here… not sure why but it isn.t

Dublin Anatomist  — 3 months ago

I have a book written by one of my mom;s relatives about my great uncle who was an anatomy professor at royal college of surgeons in dublin till the early 1960s. in that book is everything else we know about my mom;s side of the family.
even poems written by the anatomist.
they say medical students of today are still learning anatomy with his little rhymes and things.
anyway… I want to read this with my girls…. it goes back to the 1500s.
pretty nice of the relative to do all that work!
