Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

...and again and again. I’ve been living in my own place for almost two months now. I will mark this goal as “done” once I feel settled in with my belongings and furniture.

Home sweet WHAT?

I think we have decided that we are going to stay here for a while and work on fixing the place up. We moved a few more pieces of furniture in and a few old pieces OUT. Baby steps…

Technically we have moved. We have actually been living in the new house for several months. However, we have only moved the furniture from his old place to the new one. That means that almost all of my belongings are still sitting in storage 30+ miles away. We have GOT to get that taken care of. And once we do, I will finally be able to mark this off my list. Yay.

I think we have a running vehicle for a few days so we should be able to get back to work on the house. We set off insect foggers a few times yesterday to get rid of ants and things from the water damage. That will definitely have to be one of the first things to get fixed. (o_O) We moved all of our fish and the snapping turtle and set up temporary tanks for them. We moved the two big outside dogs to the house along with their water tubs and a dog house (even though they prefer to sleep under the porch anyway). And today we are getting the water turned on…after we pay the 110 dollar deposit. Ugh. Looks like things might be getting back on track. I hope!!

Had a friend help move two truck loads of our crap to the new house today. Only a million more to go.

I guess I should be thinking about what needs to be done in addition to what has been done. So…

To do.
change of address for me
change of address for him
get vehicle
move furniture from old house #1
move furniture from old house #2
rent storage building for excess furniture
sell/donate unwanted items
get water service turned on

...slowly…slowly things are coming together…i hope…

Signed the lease. Signed the rent to own contract. Paid the full deposit and first month’s rent.

Within the next twelve years we will be the proud owners of two parcels of land that will total about five acres. The only home on either property is a little single wide trailer that should be a lot of fun to fix up. We have removed the interior doors and trim throughout the house and are in the process of applying drywall. Then will be repairing the water damage, replacing carpet and linoleum, replacing the siding, replacing the porches, and so on.

Of course, life just couldn’t be that easy though. Before we could move in, or even continue on the remodel, we had to pay $650 to the power company and wait a week for them to turn the power on. Then, my car blew up (I don’t understand the details but it’s a lost cause) so we have been stranded at my mother’s house for over two weeks. We had aaaalllmost enough money set aside to get a new car when animal control showed up wanting paperwork on our dogs’ rabies vaccinations. Well of course we can’t get to them without a car so we got them all new shots.

So after $650 to the power company, $700 down payment on a new car, and $130 for eight rabies vaccinations we should be on our way to actually moving. All of our stuff is still divided among three houses so we have no belongings at our disposal and no transportation. I hope everything works out. Please please please.

I just hope that my driver’s license doesn’t get suspended friday at my hearing. Then I guess we will be stranded at my mother’s house for another two months with no vehicle??

Ugh. I just want to move. o_O

...(o_O) So I guess it all worked out. Finished paying the deposit and part of the first month’s rent. Will pay the rest of the rent before move in. Trying to get the place fixed up enough to be comfortable. It has some water damage and all kinds of cosmetic problems. So new dry wall, paint, carpet, tile, light and water fixtures, etc are all in order. Then we need a truck and/or trailer to move the furniture and whatnot in. We also need the time, energy, and financial resources to accomplish everything. This definitely won’t be easy. But I’m sure it will all be worth it in the end. (o_O) I hope. (_)

So in the last week…we found a place, paid a partial deposit, tried to arrange meeting to pay the rest, and found out it was being sold out from under us. WTF.

We are supposed to meet the landlord guy today to finish the deposit and sign our lease today. Guess we will see how that goes. Ugh.

Mary Geraldine has gotten 3 cheers on this goal.
