The family had a picnic at one of my niece’s homes and we all had a blast. When I think over the past couple of years, I didn’t think they would have another year or two. Though their health is good for being 87 and 84, there is still problems to take care of. But I thank GOD everyday that they are still around. Not often someone gets to have their parents of their ages at my age.

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.

This week has been a sad one for me. I just found out that a childhood friend was killed when his car fell on him, in front of his wife and she couldn’t get it off him. You just never know when you will take a turn and it will be the last one.
This man was so sweet and funny. He could always make me laugh. We went to grade and high school together and he live not far from me, so walking home or riding the bus was interesting at times. I still remember the time he was started chewing tobacco and spit it out the bus window only to have it fly back the next one and hit a girl in the face. Man he was so embarrassed! and in trouble with the bus driver.
That always makes me smile!
it was fun and hair pulling. LOL! My mom doesn’t eat much of what my dad fixes, she lives on instant coffee (yuck) and breakfast food and milk, but I watched her eat a good meal on Saturday and my dad couldn’t believe it.
My bro, Larry, wants to put my folks on Meals On Wheels, so they will get balanced meals during the week. I’m ok with that, but my dad, whose 87 and doesn’t think of himself that old, hates the idea. He meantioned it on Saturday and thought I’d agree with Larry, but I don’t agree, and my dad was surprised.
I feel that we as a family can fix meals and bring them in weekly for the folks just as easily. I eat maybe three or more meals there anyway and two of my other bro’s bring stuff over once a week. I see no problem.
The only problem I can see, is getting my dad to fixing/buying something different. he always loves the meals I fix and asks for the recipes, but he won’t spend the money. I have to buy the fixings for him.
had the basketball games on and all three of us were asleep, me on the couch and them in their easy chairs! Talk about spending quality time with each other! HA!
So? You say. Well about 10 years ago, soon after one of my brothers went through a divorce, we, four of my brothers and I, started meeting at my folk’s house to play cards, 13 point Pitch. This is something we have been doing almost every week since then. I sometimes feel that I only go to give points to the others, but we all have fun and can be as mean as we want and go home having a good time. My bros are so mean, none of their wives will play cards with us.
My mom and dad get to see all of us every week having fun and laughing. I even miss them when on of us can’t be there, but tell them that! HA!
Well, I was surprised when I came in my mom’s room this morning and found out that she was being sent home today. Hurray!
Still thought she should of stayed one more night, but guess not. The doctors have her scheduled to come in next month for visits. When I took her home, I honked the car horn and my dad met us at the door for big hugs and kisses. They are so cute together. At 84 and 87, they’ve been together for over 65 years.
Dad sure missed her this week. He was up and getting meatloaf and the fixing ready for dinner when I left. He hadn’t had anyone to cook for this past week and he was ready to get at it. Mom was wrapped up in her afghan, from head to toe, smiling, happy to be home.
I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers this past week for my mom and family, it meant the world to know that she had so many friends thinking of her. I’ll keep you all up to date.
Thank you, again!
it sure was scary. Thank the Lord, she is getting well very quickly and though she is still in the hospital, she is up and walking around and has no outwardly signs of her stroke.
I was sure glad that I was on Christmas break for college and have been able to spend all day and evening with her.
My mom is 84 years old, my dad is 87, and I’m not ready to lose them yet.
