At the start of 2004 I got myself a personal trainer and started the long path to getting fit.
Before then, the notion of me going for a run was nothing short of ridiculous. I think it took my friends a good year to stop laughing about the idea that i was running.
My first goal was to run 4km without stopping. Clockwise around Melbourne’s TAN including up the Anderson St hill. It took me about a year.
I have kept running. I found I like it. I am not a good runner .. I never will be .. but there is something about it .. and the sense of achievement each and every time I do it. And for the most part I continue to run 4k. It fits nicely into a lunchtime run.
But part of the joy of running for me has been achieving things I never thought possible. And I have never run 10km in my life. So its time to make myself stretch. The real battle for me is mental … physically I know I can do this .. sure I will be tired and it will be slow .. but it is do-able.
So yesterday I decided it was time to step up to the challenge and I signed up for Melbourne’s annual Run to The G. Last year it was my first ever fun run so its seems appropriate to run the 10k event this year.
The run is on June 18 … only 2 and a half weeks away!
