I haven’t been on an honest to goodness vacation EVER in my adult life. I used to go to anime conventions when I was younger but I never got to get past the convention center. I want to see things. I want to have fun. :(

Right now I’m trying to teach my dog Miyuki how to walk on a loose leash. Some days are better than others, of course, but she’s getting the hang of it. When we first got her about a month ago, she was always pulling on her leash. Now I’ve gotten into the habit of stopping and calling her back to me by saying “Miyuki, come back” and then when she comes back and makes eye contact I say, “Okay, let’s go.” She still walks a bit faster than I do so sometimes I have to say “slow down” but she’s getting there. My eventual goal is to teach her how to walk on heel; that’ll be difficult.
I tried using a Halti gentle leader head harness on her but she’s too small right now for it. :( I ended up buying her the one for one she’s full-sized (she’s a Border Collie/Labrador Retreiver) but as she’s only 8 months old right now, she’s still growing into it. Hopefully she’s only a few months from being full grown because it’s frustrating to have bought her all this stuff (including a harness for in the car) when she’s still just a little bit too small to fit into it.
I caved in to peer pressure and signed up for the San Francisco portion of the Corporate Challenge coming up in September. I’ve purchased The Beginning Runner’s Handbook: The Proven 13-Week Walk/Run Program and read it in/out. I’ve mapped out some courses around the apartment to try to get a feel for how far I’d have to run/walk to complete 5k or 3.5mi. (Damn, that’s a long way….)
I officially start on my training run on Monday. In the meantime, I’m going to start practicing stretches and walking on longer routes with the dog so she gets used to traffic so hopefully I can take her with me as I train.
