barred chords

I finally got some barred chords right a few times today. Go me!

My teacher stiffed me

Twice, he has just not shown up for my lesson. He mentioned at some point that the school was not paying him, which is really not my problem, since I paid the school. I’m very irritated. I called him, and if he doesn’t call me back by tomorrow, I’m calling the school and asking for a refund of the difference from the classes I didn’t get.

If I have any trouble at all with the school, I’m calling the Better Business Bureau. This is outrageous. :(

I am developing calluses!

Yay!

Today was my first lesson!

I was surprised that my teacher was much younger than me, but he was really good all the same! He taught me some excersizes to help me get my hands used to playing, and said that I should be able to play a song within a month. Wow! Much easier than trying to learn all my chords right off the bat!

I am expecting to have an excellent day tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be my first day of guitar lessons!

Something Awesome

I decided to bite the bullet and pay for lessons. I’m terribly sick of not being able to learn chords on my own, even after several weeks!

I called this place and asked them if they had any teachers who could work with adult students with ADD. They said of course, and that they would also set me up with someone with similar music interests. This way, as I learn I will be learning songs that I enjoy playing! So, I told them I like folk and blues.

Now I am having anxiety that things won’t go right, but the fiance says I’m being silly and to stop worrying. Lessons start in the middle of next month!

My new guitar

My new guitar is awesome!

Instead of paying for lessons, I decided to see how I did using a DVD. I have kind of a hard time memorizing where to put my fingers, but I am getting there.

I have been working on my chords, but I took a break yesterday, because my fingers are starting to get sore. Not gonna let myself slack off anymore – I’m back to practicing again today. :)

dumb

I have enough money, but for some reason now I am hesitating to start lessons. I don’t really know why.

I have come to a decision

It is a very big decision, for me.

I will take lessons. I will definitely take lessons. I have always avoided it, because it costs money, but everything worthwhile costs something.

I am thinking of getting a new guitar, because theone I have broke a string, and the thing the string was attached to is broken, and it’s an old used guitar anyway. If I’m going to do lessons, shouldn’t I be really serious and upgrade my instrument?

(Anyone know an inexpensive brand that may be reliable enough for a beginner?)

I won’t be able to do lessons for a few months though.

So I have the guitar

And I’m not sure how to know when I’ve officially learned to play it, but I at least need to learn my chords.

Today I figured out how to tune it, thanks to an online tutorial, and I tried to play some chords, but it made my fingers very sore. I have a blister on my left middle finger, which makes me feel pretty hardcore. I’m going to let it callous over, and clip my nails, so I can be a real musician. Ha!

The guitar, by the way, was a freebie from my dad, who bought it at the local Goodwill for very cheap. It’s not perfect, but it will do for a start.

Note: I really need a pick. Right now I’m using a piece of plastic I cut out of one of those discount cards stores give you to make you come back. Meager beginnings make me feel like I’ll have a good chance at stardom. :P
