This past weekend, while visiting Los Angeles, I took a hike in Runyon Canyon with a friend. My friend frequents this spot for hiking, and has some pretty buff legs, so I had to work to keep up. It was a gorgeous day, we started early, and managed to take the loop in about an hour. The first 30 minutes was a serious heart rate increaser for a novice hiker, like myself, but once we got to the turnaround point it was all downhill from there. We managed to jog down the remainder of the way in order to keep the cardio going, and followed that up with some free yoga in the park.
I definitely feel better after a little exercise in my day, so hopefully I can continue this when the rain stops making all of my trails muddy.

Two Sundays ago, we had some beautiful hiking weather, and the previous week’s rain did not wear out the trails or create too many muddy puddles to tromp through. With the sun mildly shining overhead, Mark and I decided to find a place where we could get some hiking in, as well as take Syler out for some exercise. I googled some spots, and found that there was an off-leash, dog-friendly trail at Roberts Regional Recreation Area nearby.
We decided to take the Dunn and Graham trails around, and it was a gorgeous hike. Everyone on the trail was really friendly, and there were a lot of off-leash dogs walking calmly alongside their owners. Syler, on the other hand, was leashed because he still hasn’t quite figured out his name yet (or at least responding to it when appropriate). There was one point where Syler got loose, encountered two horses on the trail, and hugged the leg of a horse! Luckily, the horses were very calm and the horse riders were extremely understanding of our wild puppy. We quickly got Syler back on his leash, and continued on with our nice long hike.
Needless to say, at the end of the day, we were all ready for a good night’s rest.
