Whoa, Nelly! 5 months ago

Whoa…this is much harder than I thought it was going to be. I find that in my unemployed life on summer break from school, I spend a whole lot of time online doing absolutely nothing. I have 45 minutes left of my two hours a day goal, so I thought I’d post a little entry about day one. Luckily, I was volunteering for AIDS Walk SF for the first few hours of the day to kill some time. I got to count envelopes, make labels, and stamp cards for about three hours, but I did get a free lunch out of it. I’ll actually be going back tomorrow, as it helps me get out of the house and do something productive with my time.

After I returned home, I decided to finish up laundry, watch movies, and read a book. I was worried that I might have to extend that two hour limit I set for myself, but I think I can keep trying this out to see how it works. Granted, I’m sure there will be days that I fall off the wagon.

Step 1: Admitting I Have a Problem 5 months ago

This is the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning. I have 1,000 other things I could be doing during the day. Not just cleaning and chores, but things I enjoy like crafts and experimental cooking; yet, I still find myself wasting away hours on the internet. It’s not like I’m actually reading anything interesting, or doing research on how to make anything. I’m just checking my e-mail, social networking sites, scrabble, and hitting refresh most of the time. I need to pry myself away from this and get my life back. I’m going to start with baby steps and limit myself to a total of two hours a day and see if that works. Today is day one. I have been on for about 20 minutes already, doing exactly the above.

Goodbye refresh! Hello world!
