Spud! Grocery Deliver

My first Spud! grocery delivery order has arrived. I thought I’d give it a shot since Groupon was offering a 50% discount on the service, and I’m home to accept the delivery. According to the invoice, buying local through Spud! means that the average distance that my current grocery order traveled to reach their warehouse was only 13 miles. The average distance that products are transported to a typical grocery store in the US is 1,500 miles.

It’s a great service, but the groceries were fairly expensive. I don’t know that I would continue this if I didn’t have the Groupon to use. However, I can make an effort to walk over to the local Farmer’s Market once in a while and pick up some local produce that way too.

Warming Up

This morning I opted to do 30 minutes of Pilates to warm up my body. “How does this relate to living greener?”, you ask. Well, now that my body is warmed up through exercise, I did not have to crank the heat up. I’m trying to keep the heat low in the apartment, so that I’m not wasting as much energy. Not to mention, the exercise was a good way to start the morning.

I’m also sitting here with the curtain open, since we have some good natural light facing windows. I’m doing this on a fairly regular basis, though, because I prefer the natural light. Will keep working on keeping the heat low for now.
