I’ve never really cared about doing this before! But when the Nintendo Wii came out, I kept reading about the lines and fun launch stuff they had and I was really sad I missed out. It all seemed really positive and fun, especially with how nice Nintendo was with gifting people in line and stuff. (Especially in comparison with the nightmare-ish Sony PS3 launch some time before.) My chance came when all the Wiis sold out that day (and would continue to sell out a year later), and I heard from a friend that Best Buys were getting a shipment the weekend after the official launch!
I totally lucked out though! I had no idea if it was true or not, and how many units they were getting. There are a few Best Buys in my area, but one had JUST opened in a sparkling new plaza that was still being built. I elected to go to that one, and luckily it was the right decision. My mom was nice enough to accompany me, and off we went, getting there at 6:45am for a 10am opening. They had 50 units, and my mom and I were around number 15.. If I had gone to the more populated Best Buys, I don’t think I would have gotten one! By the time 10am rolled around, there were way more than 50 people in line, so I was one of the lucky few to have camped out successfully the first time.
I had a blast, but then again I only waited around 3 hours. I’m not really sure how I’d feel about an all-nighter!
Picture is of my mom and the line behind us (which grew a lot after the picture was taken).
