I can’t listen to Dire Straits without thinking of an old friend. We met at work years ago and first became friends because of our mutual love of music. We traded music and went to so many concerts together (including Dire Straits) that I can’t even count how many. There’s a song ‘Wild West End’ that has a line ‘Walking with my wild best friend’ This was Jo-Ann. Although I’m pretty tame ;) I’ve always seemed to attract wild friends and she was the wildest. I’ve had some of the best times of my life with her. Once I met my husband, I left my party days behind. Although she got married and had a son, she couldn’t seem to do this. Because our life styles became so different, we eventually lost touch, even though we did have some mutual friends. I would hear about how her partying was getting out of control, but had my own personal issues (dealing with an alcoholic husband). – I still feel some guilt that I didn’t do more for her. Her partying finally took it’s toll, and she was found by her young son when he came home from school one afternoon. But now when I hear Dire Straits, I think of my ‘Wild Best Friend’ and some of the best times of my life – the concerts, the days spent at the beach together, the nights at the clubs – most times being the first ones to get up and dance…

some album sleeves. As I’m going through my albums, I’m seeing that alot of them have damaged sleeves and some have no sleeves at all. Some of these albums I bought at yard sales or used record shops and are in pretty bad shape. While I’m listening to them I’ll also fix what I can. :-)
I also counted them (about 420)
Since I’ve started this goal, I’ve listened to about 10 (still need to listen to my newer stuff) – So only about 410 to go!!

Cat Stevens – The Wind Lyrics
I listen to the wind
To the wind of my soul
Where I’ll end up well I think,
Only God really knows
I’ve sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once
No, never, never, never
I listen to my words but
They fall far below
I let my music take me where
My heart wants to go
I swam upon the devil’s lake
But never, never never never
I’ll never make the same mistake
No, never, never, never
Been listening to some really old Stones’ albums these last couple of days. These are some of the very first records I ever bought, some 20 something years ago. Bringing back some memories – and it’s giving my kids a lesson in Rock n Roll history
Good, good stuff
Deb
I have a good sized album collection (at least 300), but since cds I haven’t listened to my vinyl much at all. cds and digital music make listening so much easier – just set it and your set for the day. But I have so much good music on albums that I know it’s worth the listen. (plus my husband keeps threatening me that he’s gonna get rid of them if I don’t do something) :-)
