Looks like this goal is going to take a fair while. The CDN high commission here in London estimates that processing time for a permanent residence visa takes between 2.5 – 5 years, on average.
And, on top of that, I have to sort out police reports for every country I’ve lived in for more than six months. For me, that means three countries – US, UK, China – and I know that China isn’t going to be easy, fast or fun.
Last but not least, we have to have the equivalent of $12,000 CAD on hand (and unencumbered by debt) before they’ll consider the application, apparently. We’ve got that in our property, even after getting rid of our debt, but it’s not exactly “unencumbered,” is it? So we’ve got to save for that, and pay off our (considerable) debt first…
