It’s a little depressing because this goal is so closely linked to several other goals, specifically the ones tying up my money. My goal of earning a living with my writing could jump-start me on my way to the UK goal…and before I move, I’d have to be extremely secure financially for my extended future, if indeed I have one. After all, who says I have an extended future?
All I know is if I don’t, I’m going to be bloody annoyed!

This is one of my most intimate goals. My choice of the word ‘intimate’ may sound funny, but it’s true. It’s right there at the core of who I am.
The problem is that my parents, both very healthy, are slipping into the ‘elderly’ category, and I’m the only sibling that would find it possible to move close to home and take care of them in their last years. My father is 87 and my mother 79, so they’ll need me soon. This is fine, they’ve been the best parents in the world and I’ll do anything for them from here on out. But it rather postpones my goal of moving out of the country.
But that’s okay.

I’ve been working on this goal ever since 2000, when I spent 12 days in Kent. I fell in love with that country as soon my feet hit the ground at Gatwick. Much of my intervening time has been spent trying to figure out how to get back. I even troll realty listings in my spare time.

It all started when my older brother brought Beatlemania home in the sixties. I’ve been obsessed with the UK ever since.

My problem is this: I have marketable skills for living over there, but I’m not sure I can convince them that there’s a good reason they should give me a job, as opposed to giving it to one of their citizens. How will I ever get a work visa? Aarrgh!

Any advice?
