So far so good. For a few bucks (about $4.00 if I remember correctly) and a little time, I got all of this (see photo). Every two weeks or so I put some Miracle-Gro in the water but other than that I didn’t do anything special with them. Herbs seem to be as easy to grow as I was led to believe.
Basil
The basil (backrow in the photo) is great however if I had to do it over again I would have grown tarragon, rosemary or sage instead – just my personal herb preference. The basil did take up a little time (besides watering) to prune the flowers but it’s not a big deal really.
Thyme
The thyme is also wonderful and took virtually no additional time besides watering.
Next: making a lot of pesto.

After transplanting the thyme plants it took them some time to get growing but now they are really doing well (see picture).

Catastrophe Nipped in the Bud
Last week the basil plants looked real bad, all the leaves were wilting (you know, the part that I want to eat). I ‘fixed’ them by removing all of the flower buds. I guess the flowering part was feeding off of the leafy part. The basil seems to have recovered (see picture).
Stupid flowers, I can’t eat them. If I had wanted to look at flowers then I would have planted flowers.
Basil, get in my belly!

I added a little Miracle-Gro to the water again today. I read somewhere online that recommended fertilizer every two weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Note: it’s been overcast the last few days so I haven’t taken another picture, hopefully one day this week it will be sunny and I’ll take a picture or two.

I threw some Miracle-Gro into the water before I watered the herbs today. They’re looking and smelling good, especially the Basil (pictured).
Next: I will transfer a few of the plants into larger hanging pots.
(note to self: next time don’t take pictures with green background.)
I found some Miracle Grow in the garage. It’s labeled 15-30-15 concentration; I think I read some where that I should use 5-10-5 comcentration.
Next: fertilizer application, pictures coming soon!
About a week ago I bought a few plants of Thyme and Sweet Basil. I replanted them in larger containers with top soil and potting soil.
Everything seems to be going well, however a squirrel (stupid squirrels) dug up one of the Thyme plants.
Next: plant food for herbs (Miracle Grow?).
