I installed Ubuntu on an ancient laptop that was one of the first laptops to be created. The low, low memory made the installation program run really slow; if you have a modern laptop with at least 128Mb of RAM you will have a rather quick install. The size of the Hard drive also made it pointless to install the full package, so I went with the server version intending to create a lightweight version – but there was no way to see the PCMCIA ethernet card and now I can not use apt-get to install new programs. If I could crack that little problem, then this laptop would be completely cool and worth doing.
