don't believe the hype

Bird Flu, HN51 Avian Flu, or whatever you want to call it, seems to be the lastest and greatest scare. I admit there’s a threat…history has shown us that every x amount of years humankind gets hit with some kind of pandemic/plague/virus that wipes out a couple million people. Scary, yes, but how much are you going to let this affect your day to day activities?

I’ve decided that if I’m going to die, then just let me die. I’ve taken a few precautions such as setting myself up with a home emergency medical kit. But am I going to stockpile 70 gallons of water and 300 cans of Spam? No. History has also shown us that the last time we were told to stockpile, it was nothing but hype….um, Y2K anyone??

I heard all the hype about James Frey’s “A Million Little Pieces” and so I bought the book. It sucked.

I heard all the hype about the new Yeh, Yeah, Yeah’s album so I bought the cd. It sucked.

I scrounged around in my car for loose quarters so that I could try one of the new Dunkin Donuts smoothies that everyone has been raving about. It sucked.

In other words, don’t beleive anyone’s hype but your own.
