‘Girl I’m Going To Miss You’ by Milli Vanilli
When I was 11 I was best friends with a girl named Hannah and I used to stay round her house all the time. She didn’t have a tv and we would have the radio on all the time and I distinctly remember sitting by her open fire, roasting chesnuts and sewing little bags while listening to this song.

‘Stay’ by Shakespeare’s Sister
This was the first record I bought myself (I bought another Kylie one at the same time) and it marked a transition period for me where I stopped wearing shorts and trainers and started wearing A LOT of black. Still love this song though!

‘Especially For You’ by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan
I knew I was going to have to start back tracking as I’ve missed so many important songs out (I was trying to keep some sort of vague chronological order)!
I was a HUGE Kylie and Jason fan from about the age of 9-11, my bedroom was plastered with pictures from their Neighbours days. I could include loads of different songs of theirs on this list but ‘Especially for You’ epitomised that period for me. I can still remember pausing and unpausing my white portable stereo to write down all the lyrics!

‘Come As You Are’ by Nirvana
I had such a crush on this guy at school who loved Nirvana. As a result I soon loved them too and Nivana’s ‘Nevermind’ was the soundtrack to many a stoned lunchtime.
Later on I went out with his friend and we never did get it together. Nevermind.

‘God Gave Rock and Roll to You’ by Kiss
I heard this song the other day and it took me straight back to a school disco in 1992. I remember I big group of us all dancing with our arms around each other. This song just make me think of my ‘friends for life’ and the highlights of my school years.

‘Listen to Your Heart’ by Roxette
A girl at my school performed this during a show for her Music GCSE. She was amazing and shortly afterwards I bought a Roxette album. I orginally owned it on tape but I had that stolen and then bought it on CD – one of the first I owned.

‘Dangerous’ by Michael Jackson
One of my best friends one I was fourteen was a fanatical Michael Jackson fan. She wrote out all the words to Dangerous and had me learn them all with her before I had ever heard the actual track.
I still prefer our version sang in the dark at park!

‘Time After Time’ by Cyndi Lauper
This is my parent’s ‘song’ and also one of the few records I used to borrow to play on my record player. Then when I got together with my husband it became special to us as well. On our wedding day my husband had the best man bring me a compliation cd he made for me and Time After Time was track one. I always get a (pleasant) lump in my chest when I hear it.

‘Crazy for You’ by Madonna
I had my first slow dance with my first proper boyfriend to this song. Not long afterwards a friend asked me what I thought of whilst I was kissing my boyfriend….I thought about it the next time we kissed and realised I was singing this song in my head!

‘Bat Out of Hell’ by Meatloaf.
This is the title track of the first record I learnt every single word to! Both my parents had a copy and I used to play it over and over (in the mirror with a hairbrush) until I knew every lyric.
Then one of my boyfriends played it to me and I fell in love with him just because he chose to play it to me!
It stills gives me a little rush in my stomach when I hear it now – an absolute classic.
