Invest

This week I hope to incorporate a lesson on the stock market into my unit on adding and subtracting fractions and decimals. The kids will get something fun to do that is not just isolated, out-of-context math problems from the book, and I will get to learn about stocks. I also got an offer from some kind of financial literacy group to come in and speak to my class. Hey, no need to lesson plan, a break from the regular old, do-trade-and-grade book-assignments, AND take a step towards accomplishing a goal! SCORE! be an awesome teacher

I feel like I should be investing; I am very good at saving money and I know that it is best to invest so that my money “works for me”. Still, it is very intimidating. I know NOTHING about investing, and the idea of plunking down $5,000 on a not-100%-sure-thing is very scary. Still, I’m sure that a lot of the fear comes from not knowing anything about it. Hopefully, if I take a course at a community center or something, a lot of the fear will go away.
