I picture myself on the front porch on a warm summer evening. A gentle fragrant breeze is blowing my hair. I’ve been working hard physically all day, just took a shower, and am barefoot wearing a worn cotton dress. I can smell lilacs and hear bees buzzing around the blooms. I’ve probably had my first drink of the evening. My kids are out playing somewhere, but they might be listening in secret. My husband is working on the rock wall in the back yard.
I strum softly and play “Renegade.” All the verses. Then I sing “Puff the Magic Dragon” and even have a flawless guitar solo in the middle. I sing “Angel from Montgomery” just like Bonnie Raitt. I like the way I sound. I hear the kids sneaking around and giggling.
