Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

3/43 - The Jiffy Pop Edition

I don’t own a microwave…the girl wanted popcorn with our Friday night movie…I discovered they still make Jiffy Pop…problem solved! :-)

2/43 - A Basket of Knitting Goodness

I’m working on a purpel square right now…and watching an interesting movie.

1/43 - One of These Things is Not Like the Others....

One of These Things Does not Belong…a friend who stopped by to chat a bit and wound up staying to play two games of scrabble with us…

and Again Here too...1/43

individual bougenvoulla (sp?) flowers/petals were blowing about today from my front neighbors plant, as it was a breezy sort of afternoon here. This one managed to stray all the way to the “back yard” – my cement area around beghind my place and was quite colorful, if a bit lonely there on the cement. :-)

Another Go...1/43

Inadvertantly missed a couple of days. This old shovel just makes me smile. :-)

Well, I nearly completed this goal back in July…but got busy with life (mostly work and some personal stuff that took up a lot of my time to sort out). I really do enjoy taking photographs and looking for fun, unexpected or interesting things to photograph…so I’m picking this up again from the beginning.

This is yesterdays pic…I will probably always have to post a day behind due to my unwillingness to get online when I’m tired and I have to get up early. :-)

This photo is on the back of an advertisement I pass all the time on my way to work. There is actually quite a lot of graffati (SP?) on it, but this one showed up a few days ago and made me laugh. Under it, where it’s hard to read because of the support placement, it says “don’t judge me.”

I admit to some curiosity about what the original author meant…but I also admit that it struck a cord with me personally and brings a smile to my face every day when I go past it (2x a day). I’ll be sad when they cover it over.

Turtles at the Zoo…actually outside the zoo. The Phoenix Zoo is one of the most depressing zoos that I have ever been to…but I go by this manmade pond that is just outside the zoo, where apparnetly over the years, people have dropped off pet turtles. There are a lOT of them living there and I like to stop by when riding my bike in the area and watch them sunning themselves.

I pass this old car several times a week going to or coming from my place…it’s only recently that I noticed it (maybe a month or two). I just love the sight of it and hope to see it when they finish wiht it. I simply adore old autos, though I know nothing about them myself. They just evoke a feeling in me that is enjoyable. :-)

This is my pet zombie which showed up on my birthday…along with a rather morbid picture of a grave rubbing done on black paper with gold meidum. I was somewhat flumoxed by the death theme that the gifts had, as I was quite happy and satisfied to BE 40 – really quite freeing actually. I realized shortly after, the symbolism was more death of the friendship with the givers. Interesting in retrospect, as the gifts were given seperately and no apparent collaboration went into it.

Nevertheless, I enjoy the zombie…funny that the other art shown here is also death related, but my own purcahse and my Mayhem fest ticket (which always features a death theme of some sort). Maybe I am a bit morbid…I didn’t even realize I had a “death” collection going until I started looking about my place…since the birthday, I seem to have accumulated a small bit more. ;-)

The second hand “floating” shelf I finally got up last week. I put it over my table (which I am using as a desk or art station (limited space, means multiple purposes). I filled it with my art supplies, hopefully in the near future, I’ll be able to add more.

Amy A has gotten 24 cheers on this goal.
