45. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James 1 week ago

I saw the adaptation first. It was “The Innocent” with Deborah Kerr, one of the scariest movies I’d ever seen. And now my curriculum forced me to read the book…

44. Native Speaker by Chang-Rae Lee 1 week ago

I really don’t know. Due to my lack of time I had to read this book within one day which isn’t such an easy issue as it was more than 300 pages long. I got bored with it at times but I think it was quite a good read.

43. Jasmine by Bharati Mukherjee 3 weeks ago

Sometimes I have a feeling that I encounter books and movies that are relevant to my life. As with this one. You can’t escape the past, it will always haunt you. What you can do is redifining yourself.

42. Love with a few hairs by Mohammed Mrabet 4 weeks ago

A very interesting book. The homosexual relations of the main character were only suggested and I guess that’s the reason why the book wasn’t severly criticised by the Muslim world. I’d like to read something more by him.
Btw the cultural consultant of the Polish translation of the book is my former Arabic teacher. Hell yeah.

41. Dictee by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha 4 weeks ago

It’s about women who are unable to express themselves. I get it. But there’s no reason to force people to read 178 pages of gibberish just to tell these stories.

40. Washington Square by Henry James 4 weeks ago

Just an ideal book for me at the time. It reads very quickly. I’m looking forward to read other James’s books.

39. The Rosary Girls by Richard Montanari 1 month ago

A very good read for a thriller. Entertaining.

37. The Innocent by Ian McEwan and 38. The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston 1 month ago

No more McEwan to read. I’ve already finished all his novels, two collections of short stories and abook for children. There are some plays left but I’m not sure whether I’m going to read them.
“The Woman Warrior” was a re-read but an important one as I saw this novel in new light.

36. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton 2 months ago

I have to see the movie.

35. Night Watch by Terry Pratchett 2 months ago

I like the characters of Ankh Morpork’s watch. What a pity that in this book there were only three actually used.
I’m quite concerned about the future of Discworld novels. Polish translations had always been far behind English version and there were many more books to translate and to read. Now, they are only few left…
