be a volunteer

I dragged myself out of bed early this morning to attend a meeting of the Think Local First organization for Santa Cruz. We’re trying to create a support and promotion system for Local Independant business to try to keep the flavor of our community unique and interesting.

I’m not that involved, I gave some input and I’m going to help with logo design and maybe some video editing. But it’s something.

I’ve always wanted to volunteer, and I have on a few ocassions, but I wanted to do something in my community on a more regular basis. Durring the next few months I intend to volunteer with a ThinkLocal campaign, geared towards encouraging people to spend their money at locally owned businesses instead of ones that funnel money out of the communtiy. And I’m looking in to the 1-800-volunteer.org site because they work with my counties Volunteer Inititive Program. Hopefully between the two I’ll get a change to help out somewhere.
