I think I’m already this type of person, but it is a good goal to keep in mind anyway. First fell in love with this idea at age 9 when I read about Anne Bonny and Mary Read and realized not all girls had to grow up imagining themselves to be Rapunzel waiting for the prince to come and rescue them. (NEVER understood that at ANY age, but the only alternative was trying to be a boy, right?) Why didn’t Rapunzel ever take matters into her own hands… just fashion a grappling hook from her chastity belt, chop off the hair to make a rope, and get her own d* * * self out of the tower? That’s what a pirate woman would do, which is, to me, is what this goal is about—being a woman who doesn’t cower below deck and wait for the men to save her.
