Short on time today... 12 months ago

only got 7 miles in.

94 + 7 = 101 miles.

I broke 100! Yay me!

OK, there are three more times I've ridden at the gym, 10.8 miles each time (we'll call it 10) so... 12 months ago

64 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 94

:-)

OK, it won’t be 5000, but maybe I could say…minimum of 20 miles per week, 6 more weeks left in the year, I’ll be happy if I hit at least 220 miles this year. Hopefully some of that will be in the fresh air and not on a stationary bike, but hey, I’ll take what I can get!

My rehab right now is trying to get to the gym 2-3 times per week and do 30 minutes on the bike, 20 on elliptical. Unless I’m in a rush, I also do horizontal leg press (sled), leg curls, abductor, adductor, wall squats, ball squats, straight leg raises, quad tightening exercises, seated calf raises, balance disc, and stretches (along with upper body work with the weights and going to martial arts 2-3x/week). I need to stay consistent, because having gone so long not being able to exercise I have packed on way too much poundage and I have lost my stamina for some of the exercises and drills.

At the end of this year, I’m going to add more specific goals regarding rehab and getting back into shape.

Back onto a stationary bike, 12 months ago

joined a gym to keep up on the rehab. First day did about 2 miles (just a trial while the guy was showing me around), and the second time I went in I did 10 miles. (Plus I’ve been using the elliptical machine, too, after riding the bike.)

so:

52 + 2 + 10 = 64 miles to date.

I also bought a new bike helmet. My ex had my old one, and basically absconded with it for my son to use. Why we just couldn’t go in halves on a new helmet for the boy I’ll never know, but he has held my helmet captive for the last two years and gave me one of his old ones to use. Gee, thanks. So when I’m riding on the dirt fire road two weekends ago with My Man, it was fine on the way in, because the back end of that was uphill. But on the way out, we were fuh-LYING downhill. Holy SPOKES that was fun…except... my helmet kept flying back off of my head (even though the straps had been tightened). Really useful. So I forked out and got a new, well-fitting helmet in anticipation of more rides in the woods and maybe some rides in to work.

Hmmm, I think I may break 100 miles before the end of the year…

Haven't made an entry in a while... 13 months ago

but there’s not been much cycling action.

37 + 6 PT miles + 9 fire trail miles today = 52 miles

I joined this goal, not with the idea that I would actually cycle 5,000 miles, but just to get my backside onto a bicycle and riding. To be honest, I thought at most it would be about 5 miles! So having racked up 52 miles so far is more than I expected I would do. And there are two more months before the end of the year, so…I’m happy.

Blah! 4 weeks since an entry? That means... 15 months ago

19 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 37 miles

(Switched to another type of bike—don’t know why, but for some reason I only get 2 “plus a little bit” in on the new bike in the same amount of time as I got 3 miles in on the old bike…hmmmm.)

On a side note, I am starting to learn how to swim, like, real swimming, not just paddling around and puffing. I’ve done funny vague, “Nic” versions of streamlining, breaststroke, and, um, my kind of backstroke, but never known how to do it “for real.” So now, because I am sick and tired of not being able to get any proper exercise for like 9 months now, I have decided I need to learn how to swim the right way and do laps. Mainly right now it’s learning to time my breathing and also learn to do the freestyle strokes the right way.

I sense a new goal in the making…which means I need to clean up my list soon!

I do not know *what* it *was* today. 16 months ago

I was huffing and puffing after only a couple of minutes on the bike! And my legs were feeling tired! It was pathetic. Not enough sleep? Not sure, because I did fine on all of the other exercises. But the bike was not my friend today.

17 + a miserable 2 = 19

10 + 3 + 4 = 17 16 months ago

I did 3 more miles at PT on the stationary bike yesterday (3.1, actually), and then went with My Man on a bike ride along West Cliff Drive (4 miles roundtrip). It was a nice, beautiful, flat ride, so it wasn’t too hard on my knee. My right leg did a lot of the work, but I made sure my left leg was working, too.

17 miles. That might be more than I’ve ridden in the past two years combined… ;-)

hey! Just noticed the photo I posted is a 3d photo! Was wondering why the page was called “3dparks”...doi!

In honor of Goodnight Grace, who motivated me, 16 months ago

I did 4 miles on the bike at PT today instead of 3. The therapist didn’t come back right away, so I just kept going. I also snuck in an extra set of leg presses. heehee!

so: 6 + 4 = 10

Well, I'm off to a great start! 16 months ago

I’ve done 3 miles each of the last two times at Physical Therapy! 3 + 3 = 6 miles total for the year. LOL—Whew!

My Man is talking about getting a rack for his car so he can bring his bike over and motivate me, now that I’ve had the knee surgery…

Oh. 22 months ago

Oh my.

What have I gotten myself into?
