Restart 3 months ago
Restarting, while slowly recovering from the nasty fibro flare.
Day 1 – 30 minute walk outside to capture the sunset. I didn’t expect it to be only 10 degrees (Celcius)!
Day 2 – 20 min walk + 10 min weights + 10 min stretching. Need to stretch more!
Day 3 – 40 min walk.
Day 3 – 20 min walk, 10 min stretching.

Focus 3 months ago
Decided this is one of the goals I will focus on for the next 30 days, necessary as I want to maintain a 15,000 daily step average in this time! So here goes…
Day 1 – clocked up 60 minutes of exercise – a good start! Now to make it a habit! No where near my goal of 15,000 steps – I think I may need to do a good 2-3 hours of walking to reach that target :-\
Day 2 – another 60 minutes of exercise, including weights and loads of stretching.
Day 3 – Argh – a massive fibro flare, probably from consistently doing too much. I need a few rest days (of doing nothing), and then I’ll start again, but stick to 30 minutes for a while.

Wii are Fit! 11 months ago
I got home from my long trip for work and found a Wii Fit had arrived in my house!
I’m not sure I would count the Wii Fit as exercise if I were a lot fitter, but many of the aerobic ‘games’ currently increase my heart rate. Having done basic yoga for many years, I find that the yoga poses are quite adequate and useful providing you focus on your form. The muscle exercises aren’t as useful for me, as they aggravate an ongoing illness.
As I also have flat feet and a very weak ankle, the balance games are quite difficult but useful. I’m definitely strengthening the weak ankle!
I try to focus on spending equal time on each type of exercise: yoga, muscle, balance games and aerobic, and supplement with additional exercise away from the game.

Morning stretching 11 months ago
In 2009 I will stretch more often. For me, it does reduce the pain of exercising while suffering chronic pain and recurrent illnesses (sciatica, costochondritis, fibromyalgia).
Most mornings I’ve risen 30 minutes earlier (difficult!), and done 20 minutes of stretching and 10 minutes of strengthening exercises. It seems to help me stay more awake during the day, and I am less likely to feel pain during any later exercise.
I also put my exercise equipment in one spot, which I regularly see throughout each day, to remind myself of my commitment to improving my health, and prompt me to do some exercise each day.

Walking home from work 21 months ago

I find it difficult to fit a lot of walking in when trying to meet deadlines. One way to decompress from a rough day that I find useful is walking as far as I can along my normal bus and train route. Last Thursday, I decided to walk the entire trip, but instead of following the transport route, I walked over a mountain that was in the way (4.5 hours). A year ago, I would never have even thought to attempt this, let alone succeed!
