Fall 2008 11 months ago

So this semester, I took a total of 16 credits, finishing off the basic requirements for my majors. The classes were: Money and Banking, Intro to Linguistic Anthropology, Econometrics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and the Expository Writing 1 course I’ve been putting off forever. The courseload was heavy, but I managed to get As in all the courses except Money and Banking, where I got a B+. I’m a bit pissed off at myself about that; I had put off looking at the last 4 chapters covered until the weekend before the final and then forgot my books in Boston that weekend, so I didn’t get to even look at the chapters! It’s a miracle that I did as well as I did just winging the exam; I’m so incredibly lucky there was a lot of overlap with my Intermediate Macroeconomics course. So in September, I had a 3.136 GPA and surviving this semester with a semester GPA of 3.906 has brought it up to a luscious 3.269. Next semester I’m going to be taking 12 credits and finally finishing off Faunal Analysis (from the Fall 2006 semester, the D needs to be replaced to reflect that I finished the last 1/3 of the course). If I get As in the 4 3-credit courses that brings my GPA up to a 3.3453, but if I also manage to bring up the Faunal Analysis grade to a B then I end up with a 3.3725. A 3.5 is surprisingly possible as long as I continue to get As in the rest of my courses and retake Intro to Cellular and Developmental Biology.

Correction Summer 2008 15 months ago

The official grades have come in and apparently I’ve underestimated by a little… my current GPA, with the summer courses factored in, is in fact a 3.136. It’s not much of a difference, but every little bit helps!

Summer 2008 and the future 16 months ago

I took 2 classes for 6 credits over the summer, fulfilling more of my economics major requirements and got an A in both of them, despite everything that was going on in my personal life. Although the official calculations haven’t been posted on my transcripts yet, from a GPA calculator that I found online, this should raise my overall GPA to 3.128. If I get all As next semester then I pull up to a 3.264 and up to a 3.357 if I continue this streak for the whole year. Unfortunately, it seems that even if I get nothing but straight As between now and graduation, the highest my GPA will be going is a 3.43 unless I can either finish up Faunal Analysis with Blumenschine (who is notoriously unavailable) or retake Cellular and Developmental Biology to replace the F that is currently being factored into my GPA from when I had to leave due to illness. I’d rather finish things up with Blumenschine because that’s one less course that I’ll need to take in the end, but really that’s very much up to him and his schedule.

Spring 2008 16 months ago

I had retaken Human Osteology and Human Osteology Lab during the Spring semester and also took Anthropology of Development and Calculus (which was surprisingly fun) and managed straight As for the semester. Between the 4.00 semester GPA and finishing up Human Variation with an A as well, I have managed to pull up my GPA to a 3.063! Finally I’m back to a more respectable place that reflects a bit of my understanding of the course materials.

Fall 2007 23 months ago

Well, I managed a lovely 3.538 GPA for this semester, which isn’t quite as good as I would have liked, but certainly enough to make me a happy camper. So this brough my crippled GPA up from 2.389 to 2.647. I’m going to start studying for the Human Variation final I still need to take and write the essay I still owe to see if I can get the F for that course (Fall 2006) replaced with something proper. It would be a shame not to considering the fact that I had an A average originally. That should bring my GPA at least over a 2.8 I believe.
