So the process of renewing passports has become a lot more difficult in Romania over the past two years. I’m here now, and have met with the lawyer to give him power of attorney to basically get my birth certificate officially translated and acknowledged in Romania, basically transferring myself into their system so I have a Romanian birth certificate on which to put in my passport request. Then when I return in the states, I have to go to the Consulate and put in another power of attorney and complete the forms to request the passport, etc. It’s going to take a good couple of months for all of this to go through, however, it’s incredibly worth it as I’m now really seriously considering moving to England fr a bit and working there, with the way the economy’s going in the states.

As my parents weren’t American citizens yet at the time of my birth, I’ve always had dual citizenship (American and Romanian). Unfortunately, after the last time my Romanian passport expired you could no longer renew via the embassy and I would have to go and renew in person in Romania. I haven’t gotten a chance to visit since I was 11 years old, but I’m really hoping to do so within the next year or two. Since Romania joined the EU recently, there’s really no reason for me to put it off any longer, especially considering the fact that I’m hoping to get an internship with an international government organization within the relatively near future.
