Take a trip around the world

hopefully, one day me and my dh will have the balls to just leave everything behind and go on a year long trip around the world. we are keen hikers, and trekked most of NZ by foot, some 220km or so in 10 weeks. the routine used to be “a few days trekking, a few days resting” when “resting” usually meant doing all the regular touristy things.
if this great trip idea will not come to be, my plan is to do patagonia, around annapurna (Nepal) and south africa (safari and treks) preferably in this order, then there are many other places i want to see (see 43P:) like Australia, Alaska, Madagascar, Mexico, Japan, Peru, etc. with the southern hemisphere being the most attractive IMHO.

financially speaking, it often seems like it is either “have a big house” or “take a trip around the world”. Where the underlying premise is that me and my DH are smack in the middle of our premeditated, no longer than 2-years nose dive into making money.
we do not like this time in our lives and what it takes from us, individually and as a couple. but we are determined to do this in order to be able to live in a nice place in a year or so. so the mere thought of extending this by a year for a trip makes me shudder. on the other hand, what are we living for? working for? if not to achieve our goals and dreams?
