We’re making a new family tradition of going to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday. It’s been almost a month now, and we’ve been getting all our produce + bread and nuts. The kids love it too, especially since there’s a Rasta musician there that lets kids play his instruments. It’s amazing how much better the food tastes when it’s fresh and in season.

So we just got the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market cookbook (even though that’s not our local market—it’s adaptable). This week we’re making mixed mushroom polenta and herb crusted sole with green garlic. I’ve never seen green garlic before, it looks like a skinnier version of leeks. We’ve also got some homemade chicken stock on the pipeline. The riot of bright colors and greens, as well as the promise of warm, rich food is knocking me out of the winter doldrums.

Maybe this might motivate me some more.It has been great to get little S more into fruits and vegetables. Toddlers like getting to sample, the colors, the mushy yummy sticky juices all over hands and face, getting doted on by all the vendors. I also think she likes to eat it if she can name it, and going to the farmer’s market expands the world of things she knows exponentially.
