Curtains now up, shelf up, room basically done, except that it’s extremely chilly looking. I got my Nordic look but I’m not sure how to warm it up. Texture and pattern comes to mind; though I thought today I might enlarge the Mick Turner postcards I got at ATP into posters and frame them. I would quite like dream imagery sort of stuff on teh walls, but nothng too pale and chilly… I’ve been stuck at this final stage for ages, just don’t really know what will suit. Maybe I should buy Elle Decoration or summat.

Well, we tried to out up curtains a few days back and took down teh gnarkly old bit of wood nailed by a previous tenant and then soon discovered why it was there – the plaster’s too soft to hold screws. After a lot of huffing and puffing. So we need to replace it, and it’s a big pain in the arse. So bedroom looks like a bombsite…again. This has been such a long process, maybe cos I am a bit scared of drills and heights! And don’t have a lot of spare time. Next step is to get some suitable squares of wood to nail into wall. Sigh.
Curtains – Ikea Freja 145×300cm
OK, went to Ikea and got:
curtains and curtain rod
side table
sheepskin rug
under-bed storage
hooks for door
shelf
lampshade
table lamp and shade.
So far I have made up the side table, and it looks gorgeous. Next step is measure the window to work out where to hang the new curtain rail.
Arghm feels quite hard getting motivation to do the last stage of this…but…next step Ikea…
Well, certainly the painting part of it is over – did this by Sunday – looks beautiful. Now just need to sort out the details.
Did second coat of cornice and 1st coat of skirting. I could really use some paint remover too for the nasty yellowy radiator and various splashes on woodwork and glass. We prolly need some more “Chalk Hill” paint too…
It’s now pretty hard to remember how it was…
Today C finished off the remaining 2nd coat on walls, and I started the cornice and finished both coats on the door. We both scrubbed the floor ready for painting. Then while I was at work, C finished the first coat on the cornice. I reckon tomorrow I will leave it cos I don’t like doing DIY alone and work on my Superstition cartoon, so we can both go for it on Saturday and hopefully finish both cornice and floor, ready for the influx of band members into our house on Sunday. Phew!
I repainted the ceiling, finished off all the corners and borders, did second coat on the remaining walls until I ran out of paint, started on the door and skirting boards (but need a smaller brush). So providing C has bought the extra can and a small brush, and I can ahem, get him up at a reasonable hour, we may well finish the walls and ceiling tomorrow, meaning all that will be left to do will be the floor and the skirting which I could do on Friday.
Some nice black hooks for the back of my door…and also in my bathroom.
