My wife and I decided that the post-event things could wait a little bit. We spun a wheel (a knife on a table, actually) and wound up heading north yesterday.
We went north from Omaha on Highway 75. We went through Fort Calhoun, Blair, Herman, Tekamah, and took a side trip to Summit Reservoir State Rec Area.
We spent some time there watching turkey vultures playing in the updrafts. On the way out, we spent an hour or so driving around on gravel roads trying to make our way back to paved streets. Next time, we’ll bring a compass!
After that, we headed west to West Point, then turned south and came home through Fremont. We actually did a lap around Fremont due to construction before we found a way to get to the road heading south.
In the end, we saw lots of scenic views, had good conversations, and did a good job of decompressing. Well worth the time.
I’m leaving this goal on my list to remind me to do this again.
