new portfolio website in the works. 11 months ago

i am currently working on a new website to display my recent design portfolio. i am hand coding it and find it much more controllable, in addition to allowing me to get exactly what i want. also, development time is quite comparable.

i am excited for this framework that i am developing to display my work because it is very to the point, easy to use and easy to update.

it will be finished before this coming semester starts; in only one weeks time.

vernacular typography - concept 14 months ago

vernacular typography that defines the identity local neighborhoods.

digital brainstorm:

- organizational and division signifier
- iconography
- image display structure
- extra book information
- index display
- break up sections; scale, color, caption. show the whole neighborhood as context, then zoom in with specific details
- essay and contextual information
- back matter, instances that break the classification, anomalies.

design competition! 14 months ago

i entered a political design contest at behance.net for their what matters most competition.

Inspired by the current state of affairs and the importance of the coming election, I designed a poster that imposes a critical commentary; it’s not your average campaign poster.

I took this opportunity to voice an issue about the loss of progressive values and a lack of positive action from our elders. This statement is intended to force those who have neglected these values to rise again and triumph the message they once stood.

I am currently tied for first so if you appreciate my design, please cast a vote at:

note: no registration is necessary. enjoy the design, scroll to the bottom and press the “Click to Vote!” icon.

typocalypse post. 15 months ago

the collaborative type face is now complete. the process was surprisingly fun and we worked well together. the project was valuable because i gained new skills, from the style i work to the way that i work. this project put me into uncomfortable areas that allowed me to grow by overcoming the tasks in front of me.

the typeface was pieced together from photographs that we took from around our school. it comes together to create cohesive letterforms, used to communicate in both form and concept.

i am not a very good writer, but i wanted to further challenge myself, so i wrote a description that summarizes our concept:

typocalypse post is a poster-weight typeface designed to evoke notions of a posthuman earth through the contrasting forms of biotic horticulture, eclipsing remnant forms of a long forgotten human civilization.

the lingering fragments that persist are everlasting cicatrices from the saga of human existence. the old forms no longer serve the purpose of their opulent fabrication but instead house the context of restored vitality. from the end of one to the beginning of another, this typeface tells the tale that unites each forevermore.

the conflict amid these two forces sways back and forth on a precarious equilibrium that momentously threatens the existence of both; in this case, typography prevails.
