Between the tyranny of the urgent at work (and a string of 60+ billable hour weeks) and the festive Christmas season and all its attendant obligations, I’ve completely failed to establish even one of my ‘big four’ daily items as part of my daily routine.

I’ve slackened in my coffee consumption, but that, sadly, was not part of the original goal.

So, new year, new resolutions, et cetera. Time to focus on this one again, since I think that getting these things to the point where they are habitual and daily will go a long way towards helping me achieve some of my other goals.

And look good doing it, too, of course.

Part of "Overcoming ADD", really. 4 years ago

Here’s the thing: adults with ADD, like myself, need structure, order, habit, and routine even more than the rest of you folks. If I make something a part of my daily routine, then it gets done. If I don’t, then it probably won’t get done.

Right now, in the service of my other goals, I’m working on a morning routine that includes:

  • a workout
  • some prayer time
  • reading the bible
  • study time (for Latin, or Greek, or a programming language, etc.)

Not that bad, really. I’m going to try to time it so that I can get all that done in 2 hours or less. If the study time is devoted to a lecture from the Teaching Company, then I can do that and the workout at the same time. Also, there’s nothing to keep me from praying during my workout.

It seems to me that starting the day with two hours devoted to good physical, spiritual, and intellectual health is a very good thing.
