This sounds goofy, but I have a 3.5 year old and we TiVo shows for her, one of which is “Little Einsteins”. For each episode, there is a phrase of music by a classical composer and a work of art by a master profiled! While the show is on, I’ll sit down at the piano and try to follow along with the music; it is only a phrase and it’s repeated a lot.
I was never taught the “classical” composers—my piano instructor decided that my sense of rhythm, facility, etc. was more suited to “modern” music and jazz. To this day I can barely tolerate the stuff. Maybe it was easier for her to teach? I always wanted to learn Dubussy and Satie!

Gosh, having the piano downstairs really does make it more attractive! I can do something I want to do, instead of mindlessly watching SpongeBob along with the kids while I’m tending them. Rosie even came over and wanted to play, too.

And strangely, I found myself playing it for about an hour last night! When it was in the living room, I rarely found any time for it. I guess we spent more time in the basement (it’s where the TV and SpongeBob are) and the piano seems to really FIT better in the basement! It’s black, our basement furniture is black, etc. All the furniture upstairs is honey-brown colored, and now that I think about it more, it was really out of place.
Before anyone thinks, how the h—l did we move the piano to the basement? It’s a Technics digital piano with glorious weighted keys.
