I’m still planting in my forest. Today i transplanted some galangals – a ginger
I have begun digging out some of the shrubs on the top road and replatning them on the side road. (my brother in law doesn’t want my planting – that’s the one i spent a lot of hard months on last year.) But all is not lost. The plants are still good. And i don’t feel negative about it. I’m generating lots of cuttings from them and will try to sell some later next year.
With all the earthworks around my van, i’ve got a wonderful spot to start making a beautiful home garden. The only thing i’ve planted so far though is grass. Its better i don’t do too much on the rest until my ponds are set up.
I had the coconuts dug out for the earthworks and i’m digging out a deep post that dad planted 20 years ago and which is still good. I’m going to use it for a trellis post. Good wood even in termite country is ironbark. Is there anything more durable. You must wonder. So i’m going to reuse these posts for structural posts in any ubilding i need to do.

I”ve been doing a lot of work in the forest. Its non edibles but its very promising and i am happy. Still there is a good couple of years work in the forest to make it all a garden.

I’ve just started planting these along the front boundary. I don’t have many to put in but i’ve got more cuttings going now and hopefully they will take and be ready for planting when the wet season starts.
My brother in law is here now and he hasn’t liked some of the things i’ve done but after having fought about it with my sister and him, i’m trying to take a buddhist attitude and to let it go.

Yesterday i brought home the pieces to put my irrigation system together for my boundary plants. I am excited about putting this together. Its been so dry now and hand watering is getting tedious and i’m going away soon so watering needs to be easy for those left behind.
Its lovely to have some baby chickens. These are my first hatched chickens. There may be three and one has died. The mother sat on it. There are still more eggs in the next but they probably won’t hatch now. I’d have liked more but there will be more in the future as i’m keeing my current rooster because he’s not too annoying.

Things are going better now that the rain has come. Its easier to do the grass weeding. Its easier to plant stuff.
I bought some hibiscus and have put them in down the front. This gave me a big psychological boost as my others were not thriving.
I’ve put in frangipannis and am putting in along the boundary some exotic fruit trees now. This will help a lot with the screening issue. But i could have over crowding down the track and may have to take some out but that’s part of the plan.

It was hard doing anything during February. We had a cyclone and it was quite hot. But now the rain has come and i am having a good time in the garden.
I have planted up the next stretch of boundary.
I’m struggling with the plantings on the front boundary. Most of my snowflake cuttings haven’t taken. I think they were too small. Or maybe not enough water or who knows. this is one of the most important areas to get planted up. And i worry about it.
I do love the cats whiskers in the sections where i’ve put them and think i will now put htem in front of my other shrubs in a few patches. I’ve already done one where i planted them in front of crotons.

I’ve put in some shrubs and screening things down on the front corner. I’ll need more there and a lot. I’ve got some type of purople hibiscus which i still haven’t found the name for but i love this tree.
I’ve also done some good work with mulching and killing off the grasses on the last stretch of ground to be planted on the block. I decided to pot up the cuttings until i was ready to put them in the ground.
the ixoras seem to going ok this time on the top corner.
My other shrubs and pineapples are doing pretty well. I’ve even managed to keep the weeds under control in some areas.
Also on R Road, i’ve put in a couple of cuttings of the white flower i want as the front row and there are shoots showing on teh stick. They will need nurturing though for some time in order for them to work really well.
I’ve also put in quite a few more sweet potato cuttings around the ridges on teh border to keep the grass in check.
A mower man mowed over a few of my yellow flower power trees but i noticed yesterday that one is doing quite well. Maybe I will just leave it at that for hte moment.
