needing to hit the gym 3 weeks ago

i need to start getting on this, on a treadmill or elliptical or something. the out of doors just isn’t going to happen for the next little while. i was so close this summer, but then i met trail running – which is EXCELLENT – but i am too out of condition to make a real go at. next summer will be different. also am very conscious of doing things alone… i enjoy the motivation of motivated people, but it is very much a safety thing.

man, i want to lick/control this asthma thing once and for all. wouldn’t that be awesomeness!

Halfway there!!! 3 months ago

I just ran a 1/2 mile without stopping. So, amazingly enough I find myself halfway there. The question will be is the 2nd half longer than the first half? Hahahaha.

Would be amazing to find this accomplished before the cold weather sets in. All I have to do is 2 back to back 1/2 mile laps and then I’m done…. might just be possible!

About face! 20 months ago

Yep I am a few days or even hours away from canceling my Y membership. I have nothing against the Y, don’t mind that they have my money from the last few months, but honestly, it just isn’t working for me on the whole. In my present situation the cons by far out weigh the pros, and the pros are attainable in other ways. SO… it’s actually back to the original plan… running outside. gasp I hope to start that this week. What of the pain? I get it anyway, so I might as well exercise in the way I enjoy the most and will continue to monitor the pain as I go. I’m excited to get running outside again… and I am STILL looking forward to doing more running than walking…. getting there…. I think the next time I head out I’m up to 1:30 of running 3:30 of walking…. yep progress. :P

18 laps to go 20 months ago

So, if I can run 20 consecutive laps at the Y, that’s 1 mile. Back onto this now, and I can do 2 consecutive laps without much problem. This goal should be conquerable this year, as long as I get consistent with my exercising. :S

So bad.... 21 months ago

I haven’t made it back to the Y since visit #2 over a month ago. Between the weather, the busy-ness, and being sick somewhere in there too…. man, I’m just pouring money into a place I’m not even using. Bleck. Gotta do something about that! Argh – I hate this.

Visit #2 to the Y 22 months ago

So, it’s been about 10 days since I signed up and went for my first “run”. My injury from the first day was mild but nagging, so I held off on going on the Monday night as originally planned. Then bad weather kept me in on my two next available opportunities. So, I dragged myself out tonight and did 8 reps of 30s/4min30s (Run/Walk). Did much better today… no injuries or sign of the one from last time. Only a little leg discomfort. A little concerned about my heart rate, but I’ll keep watching that. Back Wednesday for the same again, possibly…. but hopefully easier still.

Major Step 1: Done. 23 months ago

Signed up at the Y today and did my first “run” since July. I was on the track around the main gym and my “run” included a little over 10 minutes of warm-up walking, then into 7 reps of 30s/4min30s (run/walk) with plenty of stretching as I went along.

The small intervals of running weren’t bad at all, although I still feel some pain in my legs. (It might be related to other health issues and/or overall fitness level, since I’ve had the pain even when I haven’t been running these last several months.) Anyway, it was quite manageable, although I’m feeling the effects in one knee. Argh. Anyway, I will probably head out again on Monday night if possible to do something similar.

The interesting thing is that when I can run around the track at the Y 20 times without stopping, I know this goal is met! I wonder how I can keep track of that when the time comes…?

This week's goal: 23 months ago

I half-toured the Y on Monday night. Tomorrow (Saturday) I plan to go back, get a proper tour and then sign up for membership and take a walk/run to get back at this thing! I liked what I saw when I finally was able to get there… and I think I was right, once I could envision where I would be working out, that helped a lot with the motivation. Hopefully I’ll still be this excited tomorrow and get out there!!

My baby step goal for this week is... 23 months ago

... to take a tour of the Y. Hopefully Wednesday afternoon or evening? Once I see it perhaps I will be able to envision myself running there and will get motivated enough to hop to it!

A new plan is on the horizon... 2 years ago

Running (proper, moving my legs and actually going somewhere running) will be returning to my life within the next little while. I might try it before the year is out… but come 2008, the reality will be me running again. This is the plan…. more details to follow.
