I'm pretty proud... 2 years ago

of being able to keep all the plants alive. Having very little good sunlight to work with at our apartment, it’s been a challenge. However, the African Violet is stunning, the holiday cactus bloomed three times this year and nothing so far has completely perished. Of course, there are still ebbs and flows, but I’m confident I can keep moving forward in developing my green thumb.

Doing well so far... 3 years ago

with this one. I transplanted several of the houseplants when I realized they were rootbound. They seem to be growing slow and steady:) I’ll be curious to see if my Thanksgiving Cactus will bloom again this year. I’ve moved it from it’s original location, so will see how it does.

A few weeks ago... 3 years ago

our cats decided to knock the african violet off the window sill. I came in to find it on the floor and badly broken up. It lost most of the bottom leaves on a side and a half overlapping it’s pot. I wasn’t sure how it would do after that but I’m happy to report it’s got more blooms now than ever before.

A new balcony box 3 years ago

As apartment dwellers, we’re limited in what plants we can have. We have a large sliding glass door (but no balcony…I know, strange) and we live on the 3rd floor. We inherited a cast iron cradle to hook to the balcony railing. It holds a rectangular planter which in it we put hybrid impatiens (lavender blue, fuscia and light pink). I know they’re only anuals, but I’m excited about having flowers. In the fall, once these anuals have completed their cycle, we’ll plant bulbs for spring blooming.

My husband and I had a blast choosing the flowers that would go in the planter. I’m willing to start small, but it also makes me long for a home where I could have flower and vegetable gardens. All things in their own time, I guess…but this feels like a nice beginning:)
