More of a collection of short stories that range from the macabre to the just plain bizarre, but in a good way.Much like most collections of stories it’s hard to pick just one favorite, but I would choose”Calcutta,Lord of Nerves”-(a nifty tale of zombies),and
“Missing”-(which just reminds me of when i lived in New Orleans, working for the voodoo shops, watching tourists buying overpriced junk), anyways there is 12 stories in here and an introduction from Dan Simmons as well.
A decent read, i finished this on and off over the course of a day, it is a mere modest 225 pgs if you skip the intro, which is 27 pgs.

I read this once in my youth, at least 15 yrs ago. But, I had to give it a good home again when I had seen it there in the used bookstore…
The story revolves around Stanley Merriweather, your average guy with issues with his weight, hairloss, and the bane of loneliness.Until a fateful evening where he is bit by a werewolf. The story unfolds with the pro’s and con’s of his condition of lycanthropy. He becomes more physically fit, and seems to charm women left and right, unfortunately his father( a big game hunter) finds out and wants to hunt him, as well as a psychiatrist that he went to for help,is also a werewolf/vampire hunter as well.As well, Stanley cant commit to the thought of murder, even if he knows by his second full moon his wolf hunger will be too great to control….
An interesting read, even the second time around. And a quick one at that, this book is only about 220 pgs long.

Cool book.Read this in one in about 2 days.Story is a mix of humor and horror. The two protagonists,Earl(a vampire)and Duke(a werewolf)stumble apon a small town that is the center for most paranormal activities in the middle of no where. The story centers around an all night diner that is plaqued with zombies and other weird stuff, and they decide to find out why. This book doesnt take itself too seriously, which is often better.Earl and Duke both give insight to the pro’s and con’s of their (undead) lives. All the while appearing more human by their actions than the rest of the towns residents.Good for the laughs and not so much the scares.I’m hoping for a sequal…
about 287 pgs.(paperback)

The sequal to Elsewhere.I waited a decade to finally get this book.It was worth it.I read this in a single read.It has it’s moments where i was losing track, but I kept at it.Can’t discuss to much about it,because it spoils the 1st book if you haven’t read it yet.Be prepared for tragedy this time around, there’s lots of it, as well as a time paradox to boot. Now I have to get my hands on the 3rd book….
about 226 pgs.

Loved this book.Think modern fantasy punk. The story, the world of fantasy and reality collide when the world of Faries comes back into the world of Men.The breach point is a town called Bordertown where people from both worlds can co-exist together. The story, a young boy named Ron runs away from home to find his brother in Bordertown.Bordertown is interesting because it’s a place where magic can occur sometimes, while other times its technology that works. The two conflict with each other.Anyways,Ron befriends an elf named Mooner that helps him out by allowing him to live in his Squat,an abandoned building where Humans,Elves, and Halfie’s(self explanitory) live together, your basic gutterpunk scenerio.I would go into more detail, but I dont want to ruin this book for anyone.Read this in a single read. About 242 pgs.

The author is D.M.Cornish.
Interesting book I picked up.It’s stage is a fantasy world where men and monsters exist. The story is of a young boy who leaves his orphanage to become a Lamplighter, but gets set on the wrong course and the book is his journey to his destination. He would rather become a monster hunter,a profession that he thinks would be better than being a Lamplighter, note that the books title is as such because when the Hunter’s kill monster’s they receive a tattoo made from the monsters blood as sort of a trophy,(a Lamplighter’s job is someone who lights the roads that stretch through the kingdom at night, and puts them out at dawn, but also has to patrol their section as well.)On the way he gets abducted by pirates, befriends a Lahzar,(a special monster hunter, one that has special organs implanted to shoot electricity from their body.)Befriends a Postman, and grows in the process.
Quite a good read, i couldn’t put it down and finished this in a single read and i await the second book that’s suppose to come out in May ‘08.
312 pages with a glossery in back thats an extra 122 pages,(terms, maps, illistrations, and such)434 pgs total
