I suspect that you have to be fit enough to run 9 to 12 miles at a good pace.

I climbed with a full backpack to the base camp at Helen Lake at approximately 10000 feet, and attempted to summit the next day. Our team started out at 3 am in poor visibility conditions, and at 8 am had only reached an altitude of 11300 feet. I wasn’t able to go on and the team had to turn back.
