... since I’m not visually impaired (at least not more than can be corrected by glasses). This is kind of a long term whim. I’m not sure how or why I got the idea; I just know that it has intrigued me for several months now: Being able to read with your hands – actually entering the world of words through your hands. At least it’s less crazy than trying to learn all the kanji neccessary to read Japanese, so I’ve ventured worse ;P
At the moment I’m using a great program called Braille Tutor, and I’ve bought Harry Potter 6 in braille (and damn, is that huge; the ~five(!) volumes are like more than a feet thick!). So far I know all the letters and most of the rest of level 1 – now it’s on to level 2 and, not least, actually learning to read the stuff properly by hand, not eye, and that is proving tougher than I expected; I guess you have to develop a keener sensitivity in your fingertips to read braille properly. I guess it will come as long as i keep practicing.
