This goal stems from the above rant. It’s a rant I have frequently and I’m constantly amazed by the number of people that honestly believe that “cooking from scratch” means opening a box or a can. I think it’s a very sad commentary on our society that so many people (especially the younger ones) think that way.
I do cook a lot of things from scratch, but there are things that I don’t as well. I neither have the space or the desire to make my own pasta (ok, maybe a little desire). I miss making bread (another rant is about bread machines, but I won’t go there… today), feeling the silkiness of the dough as I work it. I tend to depend on canned sauces and soups, sometimes fruit. And mac & cheese. I don’t know why I buy boxed mixes when I know I can make better at home.
And it would be so much cheaper if I stopped buying cans and prepackaged foods. (No, I will not give up my Boca burgers!)
This requires more thought. And planning.
