Teach my partner Italian

The “Italian Thursdays” rule did not really work (even though the same strategy did work for me to learn Portuguese). So we are changing the rules: my texts from Monday to Thursday will be in Italian, and she has to reply in Italian only on Thursday. Let us see if this works a bit, at least until she feels confident enough to start talking nineteen to the dozen ;)

In December we have been to Italy for some days to see friends and family. It has been great for her, as she practised a lot and now she is fluent enough to stick to the “Italan speaking day at home” (which is on Thursdays).

Previously this was rather difficult, but apparently, even with a few days, we have got through a sort of critical knowledge threshold.

We have a rule:

on Wednesday I speak Italian, and she is allowed answer in Spanish.
on Thursday we both must speak Italian.

She is doing very well, and she could already manage to get through an unexpected situation where an Italian speaker was urgently needed! She has the advantage that she speaks already Portuguese and Spanish. But in order to speak perfectly this can be counterproductive in some ways.
