Learn to juggle

On the ferry from Denmark to the Faroe Islands I met a couple of French clowns. One fellow showed me some juggling basics and some tricks, but when I tried to do them myself I found that my injured wrist doesn´t like it when I try to make it juggle.

Independent from a computer, I was thinking this morning, “I still haven’t learned how to juggle. I want to wake up in the morning, pick up three oranges, toss them around with grace and style for a few minutes to make someone smile, and then juice them. I still can’t do this.”

But I can do a little. I’m better now than I was when I made this goal. And that’s something.

I´ve been working on the juggling, finally! I promised myself long ago I’d be able to do it by the end of this year; in true procrastination style, I’m just now getting around to it. Today I was able to juggle for seven throws before it all fell to the floor, but I felt damn proud of myself! Off to try for eight …

I brought relatively few things with me into this new life that I’ve entered. However, my juggling balls remain among my belongings. Now to make that decision worth while …..

I found my juggling balls, held them in my hands, admired my humble workmanship. I even tossed them around a little bit. Just enough to remember that I still can’t juggle!!

and I was sad as I packed away my tragically neglected juggling balls.

I dreamed last night about the juggling balls I recently made. In the dream the balls were sewn, but not filled, and in the dream I was very poor and couldn’t afford any beans to fill the balls with, so I got on my knees and begged a man to give me some beans. Someone I was with jerked me up by the arm and told me never to beg for anything. The person was ashamed of my actions.

I suppose this means that I really really really want to get into juggling!!

So I finally finished stitching those juggling balls. Soft red and brown courdoroy filled with dried split peas. They feel good in my hands. I’m only far enough along in the tutorial to use one of the balls, tossing it back and forth between my hands, trying to keep the tosses consistent.

I brought fabric, needle, and thread with me to work today. I’ve got half of one juggling ball made. If I stop focusing upon this website and start focusing upon stitching, I’ll have three completed balls by the end of the day.

I still haven’t made those juggling balls. But only because I forgot to remember to do them, not because I’m avoiding this goal. I wish I had some fabric and a needle and thread with me today at work, I’d happily stitch away.
