For me, it’s fairly obvious that gay people should be able to marry each other and have the same legal rights as straight couples, simply because they’re people and they love.
Besides, not granting them the same rights as heterosexuals may give and sustain the impression that they’re inferior, which, in the twisted minds of bigots and homophobes, serves as a justification for their hatred. If the state isn’t okay with it to the point that they’re treated differently by the law, then it must be right to keep up with the hate right? Legalizing same-sex marriage would lead to more acceptance.
Only a few countries have it legalized, such as the Netherlands, Canada and Sweden. In Brazil it isn’t. Not even civil unions are legal here. No surprise there, Brazil has always been decades away from many Western countries when it comes to civil rights. Although gay sex is, surprisingly, legal here since the 18th century.
In a country where the law is a joke, the majority of people are either illiterate or functionally so and politicians are corrupt to the bone, I don’t expect any changes regarding gay civil rights in, say, half a century.

At first I thought it was nothing but an attempt at sarcasm. But then I realized that it isn’t, it’s just an extremely stupid website that uses god as an justification for religious fanatics’ unreasonable hatred. And people still wonder why I’m an atheist.
Somewhere in the website there’s a picture of a woman holding a sign with the words: Thank God for AIDS, and she’s smiling, that’s right, smiling. People like this make me proud to be human.

It’s weird how some people have prejudice towards the clothes you wear. I didn’t know it. Sure I knew that people judge others when they’re wearing inappropriate clothing for the setting, or are all disheveled on social occasions, but I didn’t know that some people have the amazing ability to tell your sexuality by giving you a quick once-over.
The stereotype that lesbians wear manly clothes and gays wear fashionable designers labels is so huge that most labels advertise to the gay community only.
I noticed it when I got out with this Armani jeans an aunt gave me for my birthday, that I had for almost six months but didn’t want to wear them because of how expensive they are, and this big, rectangular no-brand sunglasses. I passed by a group of what looked like thirteen-year-olds and they immediately started giggling, one of them even said to another guy something along the lines of: oh, now that’s a big fat fagot. I was startled at how fast they judged me and how sure they were of their words. Like, ‘that guy is certainly gay because he’s got Armani on.’ Really, what does it have to do with anything?
I was watching this Will and Grace episode yesterday, in which both Will and Jack try to teach this relative of Karen’s how to behave and look like a gay man, after trying to fit him in the stereotype and not being successful, they gave up, only to see him later wearing Gucci shoes, they were amazingly impressed and satisfied, like it was his first step towards gayness. And from what I’ve read, both the writers/creator are gay themselves.
Which is even more surprising than the thirteen-year-olds, because they are the ones who should be fighting against the stereotype, not reinforcing or making fun of it

One was killed at his farm several years ago, he was beaten and then thrown into a well. The second was stabbed to death in his own car last year. On both cases, nothing was stolen.
I didn’t even know about the first guy, because I was pretty young back then, but my brother did the favor of telling me, when we passed by his former farm, the one he was killed in, about it. He even said that ‘it’s the kind of thing that should be done to every faggot in this place’.
I don’t think anyone was arrested for either crime. I know it might have no relation to the fact that they were amongst the few openly homosexual adults in my town, but the way my brother acted is the thing that affected me the most.
And it’s not the first time he acts this way, because of his lack of brains he usually thinks violence is the main solution for everything, including homosexually – like that’s a problem to be solved – he said a couple of weeks ago, during Pride Day, if I remember correctly, when a GLBT parade was allover the news, that someone should just drop an atomic bomb on that crowd, and the world would be a much better place.
This is the kind of thing most people say around here, with much naturality as possible. The hate this rednecks seem to have towards gay people is just too hard to grasp. You hear it every time, coming from every possible mouth, from kids to elders, and it’s completely sickening to realize that so much unjustified hate can come from a human being.
No wonder I want so badly to get out of this place.
