Well, I kind of work my way around compliments, as if the person had never even said it in the first place. Is that better or worse than denying a compliment?

I’m accepting them instead of denying them now, but I get all shy and timid and I don’t know how to respond. I was able to mutter out a “thank you” when these upperclassmen girls were fawning over me, which made me really uncomfortable.

So many years of teasing and name calling I’ve stopped accepting compliments. I always have to say, “oh no no no, you’re wrong, I’m not really _.” Apparently it’s rude to not accept compliments though, so I’m learning to at least say “thank you.”
