much progress 10 months ago

Since I last wrote about this I’ve been going out for a cultural activity at least once a month. During 2009 I hope to explore all the museums my city has to offer, got my hubby excited about this as well so it will be great to do this together.

how is it going 14 months ago

In July I went to Italy for live-music. In August I went to an art gallery where I live… and saw some street musicians performing, haven’t put that much effort into this. I’d like to get into the habit of doing something exciting once a month.

Since my last entry I went back some three times to the same place for more organ music. I could get into the habit of going to the city centre every Saturday for some window shopping/people watching, coffee and this recital. Some weeks ago a friend took me to a “medieval fayre”: loads of different things and performances including some morris dancing, something my friend sees as “very weird”. Also went on a quick trip to Portugal where I saw a performance by this excellent folk group called Xucalhos.

the story so far 18 months ago

A long time ago I used to go to plays and concerts very often (many times a week!) then there was this long 10 year period of desinterest. Recently thanks to a friend I’m again going to plays… now I just need to find concerts, lectures and perhaps dance performances.

Last Saturday I went to a free concert in the most amazing building ever, the program was organ music by Olivier Messiaen. Very disturbing music, I didn’t like it at all. Anyway next week there is more music from the same composer, not sure if I’ll go but since it’s free and I love the building I may go just to stare at the ceiling.

So far this year I’ve only been to ONE lecturer at the astronomical society, and I’m not even sure it was a proper lecture… but there was one particular low-quality photo of a starry sky (taken in Zimbabwe) that just made me so nostalgic for the skies of my childhood. Yes I did many many years ago gaze up at starry skies unblemished by artificial light. The powerful memory of that feeling of wonder was brought back just by looking at that fuzzy low-quality photo. I want to look up and clearly see the milky way once more :)

I can’t even remember the name of the fascinating play I’ve seen this year, tsk tsk. Hope to keep track of all this fun stuff from now on.
