I’m really struggling with this goal. I’ve been to France since my last entry, I’m going again in a couple of weeks. Have I done anything to learn the language? No. How am I going to learn anything if I can’t even bother to open the book.

For the past 4 or 5 years I’ve been going to France for cycling and walking holidays and apart from the very basic, I’ve never bothered to learn the language. I can go shopping for food but nothing else. Most people are always so friendly and willing to chat, but I’m unable to keep the conversation going. This is something that is annoying me. Sometimes I stop for hitch hikers and the conversation never goes far. I’d like to be able to really chat to the friendly people I meet during my trips to France.
